Absolutely not true that it is sufficient to (amplifier) Guitar Combo was built on the basis of the tubes and the sound is excellent. The process of obtaining the final guitar sound of a tube amp is long and complicated. The task is much more difficult than in the case of hi-fi tube amplifiers. A hi-fi amp should be neutral with respect to the signal that it is supposed to amplify, while a guitar amp is an instrument that no less important as the guitar and the guitarist affecting the final result of the music you play. Details of the application, type, manufacturer, and the condition of the tubes used, the construction and selection of the speaker transformer, the design of the power supply, the type of speaker used, the type of capacitors and resistors used in the audio signal path are just a few examples of the elements that shape the final sound. All of these elements must be positioned relative to each other in the right way, so that their mutual interference is as small as possible. The mechanical design of the amplifier matters too. The structural stability and adequate space will ensure both adequate working conditions for the speaker and temperature inside the cabinet.
The first amplifiers from manufacturers such as: Fender, Ampeg, Gibson, Supro, Danelectro, etc. determined the sound canon for the electric guitar. All this happened over 50 years ago. The sound canon is still holds, but everything else has changed. The changes affected technology, materials, the entire structure of the market of musical instruments, and manufacturers of electronic components. Relatively small companies have become corporations, the accountants and marketing experts have taken over the role of designers. The changes have significantly influenced the sound of amplifiers, which – even if given Vintage Style designation – have little to do with Vintage sound.
