Absolutely not true that it is sufficient to (amplifier) Guitar Combo was built on the basis of the tubes and the sound is excellent. The process of obtaining the final guitar sound of a tube amp is long and complicated. The task is much more difficult than in the case of hi-fi tube amplifiers. A hi-fi amp should be neutral with respect to the signal that it is supposed to amplify, while a guitar amp is an instrument that no less important as the guitar and the guitarist affecting the final result of the music you play. Details of the application, type, manufacturer, and the condition of the tubes used, the construction and selection of the speaker transformer, the design of the power supply, the type of speaker used, the type of capacitors and resistors used in the audio signal path are just a few examples of the elements that shape the final sound. All of these elements must be positioned relative to each other in the right way, so that their mutual interference is as small as possible. The mechanical design of the amplifier matters too. The structural stability and adequate space will ensure both adequate working conditions for the speaker and temperature inside the cabinet.

The first amplifiers from manufacturers such as: Fender, Ampeg, Gibson, Supro, Danelectro, etc. determined the sound canon for the electric guitar. All this happened over 50 years ago. The sound canon is still holds, but everything else has changed. The changes affected technology, materials, the entire structure of the market of musical instruments, and manufacturers of electronic components. Relatively small companies have become corporations, the accountants and marketing experts have taken over the role of designers. The changes have significantly influenced the sound of amplifiers, which – even if given Vintage Style designation – have little to do with Vintage sound.

The Plexsound Psychonote is created in cooperation with several subcontractors (chassis, cabinet, cases, transformers). These are small or sometimes very small businesses. They all share a common feature of passion for their job. Customer satisfaction and satisfaction with their own work is a top priority for them.
They do not “chase” after the largest possible number of orders, but they prefer to work in peace focusing on fulfilling their commitments. We respect this approach and accept sometimes long delivery dates because we are convinced that this positive energy will remain encased in the Plexsound Psychonote.

However, there are a few small businesses on the market, mainly in the US, that have for years produced (of course not in big numbers) guitar amplifiers in accordance with “the old recipe.” What these designs have in common is careful, hand assembly, high quality components and, most importantly, excellent sound. Plexsound is a European company that aspires to join this venerable club.

The sound of the Plexsound Psychonote BW10 has been obtained after numerous tests and experiments, both in the selection of components and their location inside the device. As already mentioned, a guitar amplifier, contrary to appearances, is a complicated design and the final result owes to many, sometimes seemingly unimportant factors.

Bartosz Wójcik nagrywa demoBut it must be clearly said that today it is not possible to build a guitar amp that would be the exact equivalent of those manufactured in the mid-20th century (except for making single units assembled of second-hand components). This is due to unavailability of essential components used in those times (tubes, transformers, capacitors, speakers). Nevertheless, following the design principles according to which those amps were built, understanding the phenomena that influence the shaping of sound, we can obtain sound that will meet the expectations of contemporary musicians looking for vintage effect.
There is no single, perfect guitar amp sound pattern, just as there is no perfect guitar, violin, or piano. Every musician has their preferences and tastes, depending for instance on the type of music that they create and perform. Paweł Grzelewski, the designer of the Plexsound Psychonote together with guitarist Bartosz Wójcik have created the signature Plexsound Psychonote BW 10 version.
We hope that the samples presented here will win you over to the Plexsound Psychonote BW10.
